Michelle Mejia
ATR-P
Michelle is registered as a provisional art therapist (ATR-P) and is passionate about integrating art and creativity into the therapeutic space. She received her Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary and a Post-Master's Certificate in Art Therapy from Pennsylvania Western University. Michelle has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families in numerous behavioral health settings including inpatient facilities and as an in-home counselor. She has also worked with clients who have experienced spiritual abuse and religious trauma, anxiety, depression, family of origin conflict, life transitions, existential questions, and spiritual/faith struggles.
Michelle works from a person-centered and attachment based perspective. As an art therapist, Michelle believes that many people may benefit from utilizing art interventions and creative techniques as a way of encouraging self-awareness, emotional intelligence, healing, growth, and change. People do not need to be "good at art" in order to participate in art therapy. Instead, it is Michelle's desire to create a therapeutic and safe space where people are encouraged to engage with diverse art materials and other resources as best suited. In addition, Michelle is informed in Internal Family Systems (IFS), and enjoys working with people in all seasons of life and utilizing other therapeutic models such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and Narrative Therapy or story work. Michelle is under the supervision of Heather Cobb, LPC, CPCS.
When not in the office, Michelle enjoys spending time with her husband and son, engaging creatively with her small business, and dreaming up her next travel date with her family.
